National Close the Gap day was on Thursday 16 March and to mark the occasion SMPCP held an event at the new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Gathering Place (housed within the Mordialloc Life Saving Club building). Supported by Central Bayside Community Health Services, Connect Health & Community, Inner South Community Health and the Salvation Army Crisis Services, the event was very successful. Speakers Mark Dreyfus MP and Mark Williams struck a chord with those attending and Caroline Martin was inspirational in delivering the welcome to country as well as emceeing the event.

This year's national day marked the 9th Closing the Gap report which highlighted acheivements over the last nine years as well as identifying areas that still require significant work.
